On this tour we keep travelling to a minimum, but you’ll still get to see and learn about and visit the most beautiful and historically significant places that haven’t been spoiled by crowds and queues of tourist buses.
Day 1 pick up from airport. Introduction. Accommodation
Day 2 We’ll trek through unspoiled areas of Kvacianska and Prosiecka Valley. Here we’ll have a chance to spot Slovakian hero Janosikova’s head and see Mills from the beginning of the 19th century (which is a unique monument looked after by volunteers).
Day 3 Visit to a Likava Castle which dates back to the 13th century, legend says it was built by the Templar Knights. It’s not only fascinating because of its rich history, but also because it is located in the a beautiful Choc Mountains. Our next stop today is Vlkolinec, a UNESCO protected village since 1985 that lies 718 meters above sea level and the 13th century gothic church Ludrova.
Day 4 Today you can look forward to reaching 2632 meters above sea level, the top of the second highest peak of High Tatras and Slovakia, Lomnicky Stit. This is the highest inhabited place in Slovakia. After this exciting tour, we’ll stop at Pribylina open air museum, the youngest in Slovakia. The exhibits come from villages that were flooded when the Water reservoir Liptovska Mara was built in the 1970’s.
Day 5 Feel the quiet peaceful atmosphere on a boat on the waters of Water Liptovska Mara which is surrounded by magnificent mountains all around and whose waters hide 8 flooded villages. Here we’ll stop at Havránok, one of the most important and the first open air archaeological sites in Slovakia. It demonstrates the presence of Celts in the Liptov region between the 4th and 1st century BC. The afternoon is spent in Besenova’s thermal spa whose waters are is said to have a beauty and rejuvenating effect.
Day 6 Visit to Orava castle which was first mentioned as early as the year 1267 but is thought to be much older. It is listed as one of the most beautiful castles in Europe and is a must see sight when visiting Slovakia. From the castle we’ll float down the river Vah on a Slovak flatboat Plt. We will stop and admire the unique Lucky waterfall.
